What a year for Not-for-Profits and Charities! Bill C-470,
dealing with salary caps for charities, almost became law. Several
pieces of employment legislation impacted on organizations in the
sector. The CRA is in the midst of a program of audits of NFP
associations, clubs and organizations. The federal budget included
a number of relevant provisions. And, of course, the Canada
Not-for-Profit Corporations Act was proclaimed in force on October
17, 2011, giving corporations governed by the Canada Corporations
Act three years to continue under the new legislation.
